Kompas Programme

A structured support pathway for learners referred for discipline concerns.

The Kompas Programme supports learners who have been referred because of disciplinary concerns by offering therapeutic support to the learner and family, with the aim of helping the learner remain within the school system where possible.

Kompas creates direction when behaviour has become the visible problem.

When a learner is referred for disciplinary reasons, the behaviour is often only the visible part of a wider story. Kompas helps the learner, family and school look at what may be happening underneath the concern and what support is needed next.

The programme is therapeutic and practical: it supports the learner and family while helping adults work toward a more constructive pathway inside the school context.

Three parts of the support picture.

01 Learner

The learner's behaviour is explored in context.

Support focuses on emotional needs, choices, stressors and practical steps that may help the learner move forward.

02 Family

The family is part of the intervention.

Therapeutic support includes the family so that home patterns, boundaries and support can be strengthened.

03 School

The school pathway remains in view.

The aim is to support the learner in a way that helps them remain within the school system where possible.

When Kompas may be considered.

Kompas is relevant when behaviour at school has reached a point where a learner and family need structured, therapeutic support rather than only consequences.

01

A learner has been referred for discipline concerns.

02

Behaviour patterns need deeper understanding.

03

Family support may influence the learner's next steps.

04

School participation or adjustment is under strain.

05

Adults need a more constructive support pathway.

06

The learner needs guidance, containment and accountability.

A clear process helps the support stay focused.

Kompas begins with the concern that led to referral, then works toward understanding, therapeutic support and practical next steps.

01

Referral context

The discipline concern and school context are clarified.

02

Understanding the learner

The learner's behaviour, emotional needs and support context are explored.

03

Therapeutic support

The learner and family receive support aimed at insight, containment and constructive change.

04

Family involvement

The family is included so the support can continue beyond the session.

05

Next steps

Practical direction is shaped around the learner's needs and school pathway.

The goal is to keep the pathway open.

Kompas is built around support, accountability and development. It helps adults respond to discipline concerns in a way that still protects the learner's possibility for growth within the school system.

Start with the referral concern and the learner's current school context.

Share what led to the discipline referral, what support has already been attempted and what outcome the school or family hopes to work toward.
